Winter Wonderland makes this holiday season even brighter

United Way Bay Area and its partners bring holiday cheer to over 50 families and 80 individuals.
December 22, 2021

For five years in a row, United Way Bay Area has brought its mission and values to life during the holidays through our annual Winter Wonderland. Each year Winter Wonderland brings Bay Area families together to celebrate the holidays, build community, and support those who are struggling, and this year was no different.

Over 50 families and 80 youth were able to receive a magical gift giving experience through the generosity of individual donors and partners this year. Recipients received items from their holiday wish list thanks to volunteers and donors from Emerging Leaders and corporate partners Boldt, McKinsey, Waymo, CSAA Insurance Group and Bay Bridge Capital Group, all who donated to, bought, wrapped and handed out gifts. UWBA SparkPoint centers and partners also contributed to Winter Wonderland by hosting wrapping parties prior to the main event.

“Boldt Company has been partners of UWBA for over a decade now. We’re excited to do so again at the Winter Wonderland event, giving our employees a chance to give back to the families and communities where we work and live.” Steve Lind, Vice President and General Manager of Boldt

This year, the main Winter Wonderland event took place at the East Bay Asian Legal Development Corporation Family Resource Center, a SparkPoint partner, on December 16th. Through the generosity of our partners and individuals alike we were able to host a magical evening for 30 families. “Thanks to UWBA we’ve been able to bring Winter Wonderland to our youth for 4 years. Gifts were donated by sponsors and individuals. Our youth are receiving gifts, dinner and groceries for their families. We are so, so, so thankful to host this year and look forward to next year,“ said Maria Contreras, Senior-Resident Service Coordinator, College and Career Readiness of EBALDC. The evening included cookie decorating, raffles, a photobooth to capture the moment, and each family received a $100 gift card.

Since its inception, Winter Wonderland has since provided 250+ families in the Excelsior, Chinatown, Bayview, Union City, Napa/Solano SparkPoints and their neighborhoods with a holiday celebration where they can feel supported, connected, and build community. This year we were able to raise over $21,000 and distributed over 300 gifts.

We are thankful to all who participated in and supported Winter Wonderland this year helping us make an impact in the lives of those in our community. With recent events the impact we make is just as significant now more than ever. We are encouraged and gracious to those who continue to support our neighbors.

If you didn’t get a chance to donate to Winter Wonderland, make a difference today by donating to United Way Bay Area this holiday season and make the season brighter for those still struggling in our community.

Together, we can make an impact.
