You Can Outfit a Child for School Success

Help us reach our goal to outfit 320 students at John Muir Elementary in brand new, high-quality school uniforms.

Here’s a great opportunity to LIVE UNITED:  support United Way of the Bay Area’s first ever School Uniform Drive, hosted by our Women’s Leadership Council. Our goal is to outfit the 320 students at San Francisco’s John Muir Elementary in brand new, high-quality school uniforms. This will help all students at John Muir, regardless of their life circumstances, to begin the upcoming school year on equal footing - in a new uniform, confident, secure, and ready to learn.

It couldn’t be easier – you can outfit a child for school success in less than 5 minutes through our Amazon wishlist: http://tiny.cc/wlcuniformdrive.  Just $20 covers the cost of a full student uniform.

John Muir Elementary, located in San Francisco’s Western Addition neighborhood, is a United Way Community School that attracts students from the city’s most needy neighborhoods, including kids from families who are homeless and living in transitional housing. At John Muir, 85% of the student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch; these families’ resources are stretched to the limit trying to meet even basic needs. The school adopted uniforms to alleviate social and economic pressures on families, build a sense of community within the school, and create a welcoming and safe learning environment.

Help us reach our goal to outfit all 320 students at John Muir! By doing so, you will make a huge difference in the daily life of a child while supporting United Way’s poverty-fighting work.

Please note that due to the “goods and services” nature of the uniform drive, your very generous purchase on behalf of the families at John Muir cannot be counted as a charitable deduction for tax purposes. It will, however, count for karma, which has no upper limit according to the IRS!
