United Way Welcomes New Board Chair Susan Sutherland

United Way of the Bay Area is pleased to announce that Susan Sutherland, senior vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, will chair its board of directors for the next two years.

As board chair, Sutherland will help lead United Way’s continuing efforts to cut poverty in half in the Bay Area by 2020. She joined United Way’s board in 2007 and has served on its Finance and Executive Committees. She is also a founding member of United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council.

“I am honored to work with United Way staff and volunteers to lead the movement to tackle Bay Area poverty,” said Sutherland. “United Way plays a unique and vital role in our community: the organization is leading – with its corporate, non-profit, government and individual donors and partners – the work to address the complex challenges facing people who can’t make ends meet in the Bay Area. I am deeply committed to United Way’s work to make our community a place where all residents can move out of poverty, achieve financial stability, and flourish.”

United Way of the Bay Area CEO Anne Wilson said, “We are very fortunate to have Susan lead our board, as she is one of the most respected and influential women leaders in the Bay Area. Her strong business leadership, combined with her commitment to make United Way the best it can be, will help us garner the support and collaboration we need to achieve our poverty-cutting goal.”
