Walter Miller is a committed and caring volunteer, who has shown his dedication to our community by answering calls in United Way’s 211 Call Center every week for more than 25 years. United Way recently honored Walter with our Exemplary Community Champion award, presented at our annual Community Impact Awards celebration.
Here are some thoughts about Walter, shared by our 211 Call Center staff, who work side-by-side with him on the days that he volunteers.

“Walter always lights up any room, usually shouting, ‘Go Warriors!’ as he enters, followed by enthusiastically describing the latest sports win or unfortunate loss.”
“Walter is also a very compassionate person, there is never a day he doesn’t have a hard 211 case to solve. He always takes the time to listen to each caller tell his or her story with a thoughtful and patient ear. You can tell he is always concerned for the caller’s well-being and wants to ensure he refers the caller to the best resources available.”
