SparkPoint Celebrates 1st Anniversary in Richmond, Serving 600+ Clients

More than 100 community leaders and partners gathered on Wednesday evening to celebrate the first anniversary of SparkPoint West Contra Costa in the City of Richmond. Launched last June, SparkPoint West Contra Costa has served more than 600 clients in its first year, empowering them to build plans for stronger financial futures.

The Contra Costa Times captured this major milestone in a feature article today, “Financial-education center marks first year of helping Richmond residents escape poverty.”

SparkPoint West Contra Costa brings together the programs and expertise of a dozen local nonprofit and county agencies to help individuals and families who are struggling to make ends meet. By providing clients with one-on-one financial coaching, SparkPoint helps them not only address immediate financial crises, but also to create personal plans aimed at achieving lasting financial stability. The partnership is led by the Richmond Community Foundation and United Way of the Bay Area, which created the SparkPoint model and established the Bay Area’s first SparkPoint Center in Oakland three years ago.

United Way extends a special thank you to Chevron, which provided $1 million and is the founding corporate partner of the SparkPoint West Contra Costa. Chevron continues to go above and beyond to support SparkPoint – the company sponsored this week’s celebration and also produced a wonderful 3-minute video (below), which highlights the center’s success.
