On October 6th, the Oakland Raiders, United Way, and UPS teamed up for the 10th annual Bay Area Hometown Huddle. This month, NFL teams across the country are working with their regional United Ways to drive home the importance of community involvement by participating in hands-on volunteer projects in their communities.
Oakland Raiders players Chris Johnson (#37 Corner Back) and Nnamdi Asomugha (#21 Corner Back) joined UPS volunteers at Garfield Elementary School in Oakland to promote active and healthy living among students. The players and volunteers led the students in a series of fun exercises and games, then worked with smaller groups on games and storytelling. At the close of the day, each student received a backpack filled with school supplies.
The New York Times attended our Bay Area Hometown Huddle too, and produced a great article about Nnamdi Asomugha’s community leadership,”Oakland’s Asomugha Has Message of Hope on and Off Field.”
