This month, nine San Francisco youth spent an afternoon developing their own business ideas thanks to a partnership between The Women’s Initiative for Self-Employment and United Way community project MatchBridge.
The MatchBridge youth all had great ideas and were extremely enthusiastic and creative in developing their business plans during the workshop. The youth were connected to resources to help reach their goal of one day owning their own business or non-profit.
The Women’s Initiative for Self-Employment, MatchBridge May Employer of the Month, builds the entrepreneurial capacity of women. Graduates of the program have started and expanded more than 1,600 businesses from photography studios to catering companies and mechanic shops. In 2006, 301 new jobs were created by Women’s Initiative graduates.
By assisting women-owned businesses throughout the Bay Area, the Women’s Initiative has directly contributed to the economic growth of our communities.
By working with partners like the Women’s Initiative, United Way and MatchBridge are nurturing the next generation of women-owned businesses and creating future nonprofit leaders.
