United Way joined with Solano County leaders to establish a school-based health center at Elsa Widenmann Elementary School in North Vallejo.

Readily accessible care is essential in Vallejo, since 20%, or one in five children is afflicted with asthma. The new health center will serve as a hub where children who lack insurance can receive comprehensive healthcare and preventive services.

“By collaborating with United Way and other community leaders, we can improve the health of our children and address the health disparities in our diverse community,” said Vanita Finney, coordinator of Student Health Services at Vallejo City Unified School District. “We would not be where we are without United Way’s continuing partnership.”

The center will provide a full range of health services including immunizations, physicals, treatment for illness, lab tests, health and prevention education and dental screenings. Staff will also assist low-wage families with enrollment in subsidized insurance programs.
