      Find everything you’ll need to run or promote a Volunteer Tax Site this tax season!  
 
 
 
In 2007, over 1.900 volunteers assisted tax payers at sites throughout the Bay Area. You can assist low to moderate income working families meet their basic needs and increase theri financial stability.

Volunteering with EKS is extremely rewarding and provides a robust experience. No experience is necessary and training is provided.

Online training for VITA site volunteers

Online training for VITA site volunteers is available through the IRS. However, this option should be reserved for returning volunteers. For more information, visit the following link.

Greeters welcome tax filers at the sites. They provide intake forms and ensure filers have all of the necessary materials to complete their returns.
Time Commitment

A minimum of 16 hours during tax season (February-April). Flexible schedules.

Training

The site coordinator will provide an orientation.

Intake Volunteers help clients complete intake forms.

A minimum of 16 hours during tax season (February-April). Flexible schedules.

Training

Intake Volunteers must complete Tax Law and Tax Wise classes, offered on the last three Saturdays in January 2007.
Returning volunteers may study on their own to pass the IRS certification exam (www.irs.gov under "Link and Learn").

Interpreters help clients by translating between tax filers and volunteer Tax Preparers.

Time Commitment

A minimum of 16 hours during tax season (February-April). Flexible schedules.

Training

No training required! The languages we need most are: Bosnian, Cambodian, Cantonese, Farsi, Haitian, Hindi, Laotian, Mandarin, Mien, Spanish, Russian or Vietnamese.

Tax Preparers help clients complete their tax returns. Volunteers receive free tax training and certification by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Time Commitment

A minimum of 16 hours during tax season (February-April). Flexible schedules.

Training

Tax Preparers must complete Tax Law and Tax Wise classes, offered the last three Saturdays in January 2007.

Returning volunteers may study on their own to pass the IRS certification exam.
( www.irs.gov under "Link and Learn"). All Tax Preparers must re-certify each year.

Transmitters are trained to send electronic tax returns to the IRS from tax sites. Volunteers should be experienced computer users with an interest in gaining new skills.

Time Commitment

A minimum of 16 hours during tax season (February-April). Flexible schedules.

Training

Transmitters must take Tax Law and Tax Wise classes, offered the last three Saturdays in January 2007. They may also study on their own to pass the IRS certification exam
(www.irs.gov under "Link and Learn"). Transmitters also complete an additional four-hour session of training.
