SparkPoint Success Story
“I’m showing my daughters that I can make it. ~Shatrisse
Shatrisse was trying to provide for her three young daughters on only $12,000 a year. Fortunately, Shatrisse found a lifeline at United Way’s new SparkPoint Center in Oakland. In just seven months of working with a financial coach at the SparkPoint Oakland Center, Shatrisse increased her credit score by 90 points, developed a résumé and enrolled in a community college job training program.
She and her family are just one example of more than 440,000 Bay Area households struggling to make ends meet, according to a recent United Way study. Most of these families – 86% in fact – have at least one wage earner but still can’t pay for their household’s basic needs.
