Programs

Are you having trouble making ends meet? United Way’s programs are changing thousands of lives every year through our innovative programs.

NFL star Nnamdi Asmougha is our LIVE UNITED ambassador, who has made cutting drop-out rates a top priority of his philanthropy.

Start with 211

You can dial 411 for information and 911 for emergencies, but did you know that you can dial 211 when you need help and don’t know where to turn? 211 is a helpline to community services open 24/7, connecting people to food, shelter, health care, senior services, child care, legal aid, and other essential needs. Last year, 211 answered almost 179,000 calls. Visit our 211 website.

Get Financial Help

United Way’s SparkPoint financial education centers can help you lay the foundation to economic success. Through one-on-one coaching and workshops, we can help you increase your income, build assets, and manage your credit. Last year, SparkPoint’s eight centers helped 4,000 people. Visit our SparkPoint website.

Get Free Tax Preparation

If doing your taxes is too taxing on your pocketbook, try United Way’s Earn It! Keep It! Save It! program which provides free tax preparation services for low-to moderate-income residents. Last year, we prepared 60,000 tax returns, bringing $63.8 million in refunds back to our communities. Visit our Earn It! Keep It! Save It! website.

Help Youth Get Jobs

Do you know a teen who needs work? United Way’s MatchBridge program prepares, mentors, and places San Francisco youth in the job market. Early work experiences can lay the groundwork for financial success later in life. Visit our MatchBridge website.

Help Kids Do Better in School

If you’ve got kids, you know having a stable home helps their ability to learn in school. United Way’s Community Schools program brings services into schools, providing vital resources to families such as food, shelter and health care. Visit our Community School page.
