San Francisco Summer Jobs+
The job market is challenging, and many youth are struggling to find even minimum wage jobs. In fact, 20% of Bay Area youth, age 16-24 are unemployed and looking for work. That is why United Way is partnering with the San Francisco Mayor’s Office on Summer Jobs+. The goal is to create thousands of jobs and internships for Bay Area youth. 3,350 jobs have already been pledged.Early work experiences help build the foundation for economic success in life. For urban youth, getting a job can mean the difference between financial security and a life of crime, homelessness, or hunger.SF Summer Jobs+ is part of a national call-to-action issued by President Obama, calling on businesses, nonprofits, and government to provide pathways to employment for low-income and disconnected youth in the summer of 2012.
This is an all-hands-on-deck moment, and we urge Bay Area employers to rise to the challenge by pledging jobs or sponsoring summer internships that will give youth the support they need to infuse our economy with new skills and leadership.
