Providing Free Tax Preparation to Our Community
Earn It! Keep It! Save It! provides free tax preparation to low- to moderate-income Bay Area households. More than 3,600 highly trained volunteers comprise the backbone of this program, preparing returns for 63,000 households in 2012. This year, we brought $68 million back in refunds to our community, spurring jobs and economic stimulus.
Ensuring People Get the Refunds We Deserve
Providing the highest quality free tax preparation is at the forefront of an Earn It! Keep It! Save It! tax preparer’s mind. One of their goals is to ensure that clients get all the tax credits they are entitled to. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable credit given to low-wage workers. The EITC can be well over $5,000, yet it is often not claimed because people do not know about it, or it can cost money to prepare the additional form. Earn It! Keep It! Save It! helped secure roughly $22 million for residents through the EITC.
