Team-building events
Money raised during team-building events can either be donated directly to the campaign or used to fund a dollar-for-dollar challenge.
Below are some ideas:
Potluck Against Poverty: Organize an employee potluck lunch and sell tickets to enjoy the food.
Denim Days: Who doesn’t love wearing their favorite pair of jeans at work? With the warm days of the summer approaching, have employees purchase a “Denim Day” ticket to make any day a casual dress day.
Coffee Week: Have an employee ask a local coffee distributor to donate ground beans. Staff volunteers can choose a week to sell coffee at the office, giving fellow employees the option to buy their coffee at work instead of a coffee shop.

Corporate sponsorship
Sponsor Road to Recovery and help us spread the word about this important campaign while being recognized as a community champion. Help underwrite media space and events. Leading Bay Area media companies and sports teams partnering with United Way include ABC-7, NBC-11, Univision, KOIT Radio, San Francisco Chronicle, Bay Area News Group, BART and the San Francisco Giants – which are providing fantastic opportunities for corporate sponsor recognition. We also welcome opportunities to raise awareness through your organization’s communication channels.
Volunteer
Volunteers are more critical than ever as Bay Area nonprofits are seeing an unprecedented surge in demand for services. United Way’s Volunteer Services team can connect your employees with fun, team-building volunteer projects throughout the region. Contact Aditi Aggarwal at 415-808-4407.
Fund a dollar-for-dollar Challenge
United Way will promote dollar-for-dollar challenges through our partnership with KOIT Radio, as well as online. Your challenge will be used to encourage listeners to donate to the Road to Recovery. KOIT’s on-air personalities and commercials will state that your company will match each pledge dollar-for-dollar during your specified challenge period.
Donate goods and services
United Way welcomes in-kind donations of products and services, which we will promote through KOIT as well as online. Examples include gift certificates for products and services and tickets for music, theatre, sports or travel. Proceeds from the sale of these items will benefit the Road to Recovery.
Point-of-sale displays
Point-of-sale collections can turn thousands of idle pennies into real dollars. United Way can work with your company to equip check-out counters with materials that provide customers with a convenient way to contribute to the Road to Recovery campaign.
